the Ghost of Heceta Head

I'm aware of only one ghost story to come out of the area around Florence, OR. Maybe that's because ghosts seem to prefer castles, mansions, and large old lodges to haunt, and there aren't any around Florence. Or maybe they just don't like the dampness and mildew.
In any case, the closest building around that might interest a ghost is the lighthouse at Heceta Head, and the lighthouse keeper's house at its base.  It's a classical white Cape Cod style house with a red roof. After the lighthouse was automated and a human tender wasn't needed any more, Lane Community College took over the keeper's house, and hired a local carpenter to do some maintenance.  When he worked in the attic, he noticed that every time he left and returned, his sawdust had been swept into a neat pile.
Then he saw her--as he worked in the attic one day, he saw a pale light that took the shape of an old woman in diaphanous gowns. Alarmed, he jumped out of the attic window, and broke his leg on the ground below.
Vake knew the carpenter, and vouched for his credibility. "He's a pretty reasonable guy," he said, "Not some kind of  boozer or anything."
