Evelyn was the person who introduced the family to new fun foods, like taffy, artichokes, and these snacks that have become another family holiday tradition.WARNING: this is the original recipe. DO NOT use "large" packages of cereals. Due to super-sizing, if you do that, you will have a cubic yard of party mix. Use the SMALLEST package of cereals that you can find. It will still fill your largest roasting pan. I use one-pound bags of pretzels and one Costco jar (about a quart) each of mixed nuts and cashews, and save the jars to use some of the final mix. When I sent a jarful to Mark's house once, I got a note from Dr. Sue Decker who said "Please don't tell Meghan that it came with cashews in it!"
Mix together in a large roasting pan:
1 large package Cheerios
1 large pkg Rice Chex
1 large pkg Wheat Checks
2 Cans mixed nuts
2 cans cashews
2 large pkgs long pretzels
Melt together:
1 C oil
½ C margarine
1 tsp celery salt
1 tsp onion salt
1 tsp tobasco sauce
1tsp savory salt
¼ tsp garlic salt
2 T Worchestershire Sauce
Pour the sauce over the cereals. Bake at 250 degrees for 2 hours, stirring every 15 minutes.
