Because her parents were divorced, then Eli, Jr. died young from TB, Shirley was raised away from her Sampson relatives. She didn't even go by "Sampson."  The Sampsons didn't get any photographs of her--maybe that's why Sofia always kept a picture of a little curly-haired blonde girl, clipped from a magazine, posted on her kitchen wall, and said "That's Shirley." Now her daughters Susan Buckhart and Marcia Landry  have provided these photos to fill in the gap.
