Eric's Unsafe and Insane Fourth of July

Eric and his chums headed off to Orcas Island for the Independence Day holiday. Once on the Island, they had departed the ferry terminal and just about the only store on the Island when they remembered something they needed to pick up.  There were no good places to turn around on the two lane blacktop, but when he came to a straight stretch with nobody coming, Eric began see-sawing his car to turn it around. Unfortunately, that's when a couple of wheels slipped off the pavement and sunk into the soft shoulder, and he was stuck.  About then an Island County Deputy came cruising by, on his routine, but rare, patrol of the Island. "What's the matter son, have trouble negotiating the straight-of-way?" he asked.  After the deputy had  helped the guys get their car back on the road and headed in the right direction,  Eric could breathe his sigh of relief.  His trunk was loaded with illegal fireworks that he'd purchased from the Muckleshoot Indian reservation, from one of those stands typically labelled "Unsafe and Insane."
