Hunting Stories: Truth is Stranger than Fiction

The family used to grumble that Johnnie shot his deer so they would land in his trunk. Jon explains that there is a basis for that tale, as follows: The last deer which I was aware that Dad (Johnnie) killed, was on the way from Roseburg to Florence, and was on the hillside above the highway which paralleled the Umpqua River.  He pulled over and shot it (probably with the rifle resting on the top of the car.Totally illegal - shooting from the highway.)  It rolled down and landed in the ditch next to the car, he loaded it into the trunk, and home they went.  (I'm told that Mark or someone observed signs of his having had a 'small' stroke, most likely as a result of this event!)
